The Healing Power of Nutrition

Yahuah has provided all we need to nourish and heal our bodies. Ezekiel 47:12 says, “And by the bank of the stream, on both sides, grow all kinds of trees used for food, whose leaves do not wither and fruit do not fail. They bear fruit every new moon, because their water flows from a set-apart place. And their fruit shall be for food and their leaves for healing.” This was Yahuah’s original plan for us to care for our temples. Conventional medicine is not meant to heal. It is meant to treat symptoms instead of getting to the root of the problem. The synthetic medications that man has created use a combination of what Yahuah has naturally given us mixed with sorcery. The medications are not meant to heal you, they are meant to keep you going while still relying on the medication. Many times, the medications cause additional side effects and symptoms that will lead to taking additional medications. With emunah (faith) in Yahuah, consistency, and prayers (in the name of Yahusha Ha’mashiach) your body can heal with the fresh foods and herbs Yahuah has created.

Many of us, across the different assemblies, have been experiencing cold, flu, and allergy symptoms. Yahuah has provided us with food, herbs, and the wisdom to help ease those symptoms and heal the body. The purpose of this post is to inform you of different ways to help you cope with the mentioned symptoms naturally.

Immune System Boosters

Vitamin C rich foods boost your immune system overall. The Vitamin C increases the number of white blood cells the body has and improves the quality of the cells. The following foods are rich in Vitamins C: citrus fruits (such as oranges, grapefruit, tangerines, and lemons), strawberries, kiwi, kale, broccoli, spinach, and bell peppers. Garlic and ginger are also immune boosters and they decrease inflammation. Garlic also fights bacteria and viruses. A great way to get all of these foods at once is by juicing!

Sinus Congestion/Chest Congestion/Allergy Symptoms

Honey is a natural immune booster with antibacterial components. It also soothes coughing similarly to a cough suppressant. Local honey is often used to manage allergy symptoms. Using local honey for allergies is a remedy that works in the body over time. You must take it consistently to reap the full benefits.

Elderberry fights upper respiratory infections and seasonal allergies. If taken regularly (like honey) it can be used to prevent cold viruses. Elderberry also improves headaches and can help break a fever naturally.

Hot broths (specifically chicken broth) help thin out the mucus and helps with congestion.

Hot tea prepared with local honey and fresh lemon is a well-known remedy for congestion. The tannins and antioxidants in the tea help with inflammation.

Mullein is an herb that is known for its myriad of healing properties. This is herb helps with healing the respiratory system. When taken regularly, it can improve the following: bronchitis, asthma, common cold, coughing, and congestion.

Inflammation and Vitamin D

Vitamin D is a critical to fight inflammation in the body. The best and most natural way to get vitamin D is by spending time in the sun. It is important to note that melanin is a protective barrier from the sun. The more melanin you have the more time you need to spend in the sun to get the most benefit. There are no specific time recommendations for spending time in the sun.

Taking a daily supplement is an option. Taking a whole food supplement is much more beneficial than taking a synthetic form of the vitamin. Your body will be better able to absorb a whole food supplement.

Vitamin D can also be found in the following foods: salmon, eggs, fortified grains, tuna, shitake mushrooms, and fortified plant-based milks.

Foods to Avoid When Experiencing Cold, Flu, and Allergy Symptoms

It is best to avoid refined grains (pancakes, cookies, cakes, pies, etc.), processed foods, and fried foods. These foods increase inflammation in your body. Dairy is another food group to eliminate or limit- especially milk, cheese, and butter. Dairy products increase the mucus production in your body. These foods may also increase inflammation if they are not eaten in the purest form. Yogurt without added sugars may be beneficial, due to the natural probiotics, in small amounts.

Fasting

Fasting is not only used for spiritual healing but it is also for physical healing. Did you know that the body uses a lot of energy digesting food? If you are eating and snacking all throughout the day, your body has no time to rest from digestion in order to heal your body. The body begins a process called autophagy after 18-20 hours without food. Autophagy is the process of the body recycling old and/or weak cells. The maximal results occur after 48-72 hours without food. During autophagy your body HEALS! You can reap the following benefits: Increase stem cells, DNA and cell repair, suppress cancer, improve cardiovascular health, boost immune system, reduce inflammation, heals disease and sickness, and more. If you are new to fasting it is best to start with intermittent fasting then progress to water fasting. It is best to limit water fasting to no more than 3 days when you are sick to prevent undue stress on your body.

I encourage you to consider these natural options if you or your family are experiencing these symptoms. Be sure to journal how you felt before and after using these suggestions over a period of time. This will help you to see what things helped and how long it took for improvements to be noticed. Remember, a natural healing lifestyle requires dedication, preparation, and consistency. I pray this information is a blessing to you and yours.
